Down House

A few weekends ago a friend and I needed to get  away from our children and just have some girl time. What better way to do that than brunch! Since I am always the “designated place finder” I did what I always do…I Googled and I Yelped. The end result was a nice little spot in the Heights.

On the corner of Yale and 18th St., there lies a spot that has definitely  got me wanting to go back and check it out. My friend and I both got dishes that we have tried at other places but they were definitely not the same.

She had the Chicken and Waffle (with a side of eggs). The two main ingredients (chicken and waffle) were paired with real maple syrup, whipped cream and spicy pepper honey for a nice kick of sweet and spicy flavor.

I had the Shrimp and Grits. Now, I usually don’t get shrimp and grits mainly because I don’t eat a lot of shrimp but I decided to step out of my box and go for it. The dish was made complete with pho broth, delicious chunks of bacon (I looooovvvveeeee bacon) and some sriracha. I added a poached duck egg because, well, who doesn’t like a nice creamy yolk in their brunch, right?

The food was delicious plus the mimosas we shared to wash it all down. The atmosphere was very chill and made for some good conversation before we walked off our meals by checking out some thrift stores that are just around the corner. I will definitely have to go back but next time I will be going to check out the Benedict.
